weekend getaway

Saturday was a crazy adventure. I learned lots of things about my own life. First thing on Saturday, we broke up into two groups and went to visit different organizations. The group I was in went to visit a school that taught kids from secluded communities how to farm and other things for their communities. After a certain number of days, the students would go back to their villages to teach the people what they learned. I thought it was really awesome how they were investing so much time and effort into the kids and giving them the opportunity to make a difference in their worlds. We also visited a hydroelectric plant where they used the water to make electricity for the surrounding areas and a fish farm. It amazed me how they used any and every resource they had to survive and do so in an efficient way. Later that night, we went to a hotel. I was so thankful to have air-conditioning for a night. I really have taken for granted the little things like that. However, we discovered that there was no internet which also made me realized how dependent we are on technology. We were all going crazy at first and didn’t know how we would survive. In the end, we ended up having a better time together than any other night because we relied on each other to have fun instead of our computers. Sunday, we got to just relax on the beach and do group exercises. At first, I thought the group exercises were stupid and pointless, but after a few minutes, I really felt like I was beginning to understand the point: coming together as one to create change. I really loved that.  We just got to relax the whole day and it was really fun to get to bond with each other without any stress. I really feel fortunate to be able to go on this trip to such an amazing place with such amazing people. I’ve made so many new friends on this trip and seen so many things. Both of these experience have made this trip a life changing one.
