Favelas, food, and fun.

Today was, by far, the most amazing and life changing day of the trip. I wasn’t really looking forward to today because I thought it would be hot and nasty, but it really changed the way I look at things. Seeing all the living conditos of th people in the favelas, which is kind of like the ghetto, really made me appreciate what I have. Also, these were some of the happiest people I’ve ever gotten to meet. Every one of them smiled and waved as we passed. And not to mention, on top of having a hard life, they all were trying to get educated in some way. I was amazed by their attitudes. After we walked around the favelas, we went to eat at a school house. All the kids wanted to meet us and get their pictures made with us. It was so much fun and the food was AMAZING! Chicken stroganoff is pure delight. Haha. After that, we went to an art school where a lot of the kids can go, after their regular school, and study art. These kids were the most talented and creative people! It was amazing to see them work. After that, we went to do graffiti and make shirts, but ended up making our own plans. We convinced the kids to make a circle and we danced and sang for like an hour. Then we all went on the roof and just hung out and did graffiti. It was the best night of my week, by far. I’m beginning to see my purpose on this trip: to learn from other people. It’s like nothing I’ve ever experienced, and I’m so thankful I got chosen to come here. I really hope I can have another experience like today’s.
