Hi, I’m Kalah!

I’m a teacher turned full time stay at home mommy to two crazy kiddos- Esther and Simon.

I’m married to my best friend in the whole world, Joel. He is my total opposite- calm, coordinated, and full of common sense.

I’m a Christ follower who is trying to find beauty in the imperfect around me & use what He has given me to glorify Him and serve others. I love to write about the ordinary chaos of my life while I reflect and try to find God in the mundane. Sometimes things are messy, loud, and all over the place, but I am so excited to share my life with you!

After a lot of prayer and listening for the Lord’s guidance, I’ve decided to go back to the classroom! This isn’t what I expected- I thought we were homeschooling for sure- but it’s so much what my heart, soul, and family need. I’m BEYOND excited to go back into the ministry that God has given me, and to share that with you, too! Hey, friends 👋
We have a few new faces around here, so I wanted to introduce myself!
I’m kalah- a Jesus follower, wife to my best friend, and mommy to two crazy toddlers. In 2020, I traded in my classroom in the city for a homestead up on the mountain.

I’ve learned a lot about myself and grown a lot in my faith since becoming a mom. In the past 5 years, I’ve lost family members, been diagnosed with depression and anxiety, started to learn to love myself, found new passions, and began intentionally searching out God’s faithfulness in the everyday.

I hope you’ll find humor, encouragement, and inspiration in my journey that I share here and on my blog!

Part of Charlotte Mason’s idea of mother culture (although it was never actually expressed by Charlotte herself) is the idea of feeding your own curiosity and hunger for learning by reading at least 30 min a day. Did you know it is also recommended to have 3-5 books going at once? Just like with eating a meal or snack, you can’t know what you’re in the mood for until the time has come.

📚 Have 3-5 books from different genres going so you can always have something appealing to read.
📚 Keep books spread our, not just in one place. That way, you’re always near to a good read.
📚 Hide your phone or set screen limit settings. DO NOT read from a screen, but instead, model for your child how to get lost in a good paper book!
📚 Give yourself grace- getting into (or back into) the habit of reading takes time, patience, and mental training. Don’t beat yourself up if you can’t do a full 30 minutes or it doesn’t look the way you imagine it would.
